Newcomers

The job of the Hospitaller in the SCA is to be the contact for people who are interested in the Society for Creative Anachronism. The Hospitaller can supply medieval loaner clothing, feasting gear, and answer questions about our group. After you become familiar with the SCA, the Hospitaller will ask what your interests are and direct you to the person in charge of that area. But always feel welcome to come back to any of us for any question, concerns or comments you may have.

Arts & Sciences
Do you notice all the tapestry, clothing and scrolls in the movies and books? Ever wonder how they did that and would I be able to? Well, the SCA does all that. We make our own clothes, some construct their own tents (for our camping events) and we have a group that creates scrolls for our awards that are given out. We welcome anyone regardless of whether you are just starting out or you have many years of experience with the Arts & Sciences. Everyone has something they can teach to someone.

Martial Arts
Have you day dreamed about fighting in the Renaissance times, fighting for honor, significant other or for the kingdom? Fencing, heavy fighting and archery allows us to recreate fighting during the medieval times. We have fencers using blades called rapiers who have duels or melees against each other. Heavy fighting consists of people wearing metal armor and fighting each other using ratan that has been covered with duck tape. Our king is determined in what we call "Crown Tournament". The winner is King for 6 months along with his/her consort. Archery is usually held at large events and anyone can join in from all generations.

Culinary Arts
With all the work that goes into the SCA, we do tend to get hungry. Our cooks' research period recipes and cook during small and large events. It is really exciting to try new and different foods that usually are not made in the 20th century.

Events
We have camping events through out the year. Most camping events during the wintertime are held down south in New Mexico or Arizona. The camping events are usually 2-3 days on a weekend. We have fighting, classes and festive gathering all weekend long. The other events that we have are usually one day and are more specific to an area in the SCA.
