What the Officers Do

This is a list of the types of duties each officer performs.

Seneschal:
The Seneschal handles legalities, such as signing site contracts. He or she also runs meetings and may organize projects. Contact this officer for questions on the location and times for meetings or information on other of the day-to-day business of the group.

Exchequer:
The Exchequer sometimes called a Reeve, handles the money for the group. Contact this officer for information on holding fundraisers, requesting funds for your office or for budgeting an event.

Herald:
The Herald helps people develop a persona name and armory to use in the SCA. The herald also takes care of reporting awards and maintaining precedence updates, in addition to making announcements and doing field heraldry or court heraldry. Contact this officer for information on submitting a name, device, badge or for information on the various aspects of heraldry. The herald can also be a good source of information on items of heraldic display, such as surcoats and banners.

A&S Minister:
The Minister of Arts and Sciences reports on the things Canton members make and learn. He or she may organize competitions, workshops, or lectures. Contact this officer if you would like to organize an A&S gathering or event, or for information on who in the area shares your interests or teaches.

Hospitaller:
The Hospitaller (in some groups called the Chatelaine or Gold Key) helps newcomers understand the basics of the SCA and keeps the group's supply of loaner clothing and dishes for newcomers to borrow until they can buy or make their own. He or she may also be responsible for generating flyers or handouts (all of which must be approved by the Kingdom Hospitaller). Contact this officer if you are new to the SCA (or just the local group), if you are bringing newcomers who will need loaner gear, or if you have ideas for PR materials.

Rapier Marshal:
The Rapier Marshal is responsible for managing and coordinating light weapon combat, known as Rapier, activites, and practices. If you are interested in learning or participating in SCA style fencing, this would be a good person to contact.

Archery Captain:
The Archery Captain is responsible for managing and coordinating archery activites and practices within the group. If you are interested in learning or participating in SCA archery, including crossbow use, this would be a good person to contact.
